Guitar Hero or Rock Band, Which One to Buy?
This has always been a tough decision to have to make ever since the likes of Rock Band game Guitar Hero World Tour came along, which music game is right for you? This decision is becoming ever more harder because both game developers are releasing more and more games, so this post should help you decide which game is right for you.
I’ll kick off with Guitar Hero 2, the first Guitar Hero game to be released onto the next-gen consoles. Although this is a good game, it only has the guitar career so this one is not a great one for beginners. I would recommend it if you love playing classic songs.
Guitar Hero 3 is the next one to consider, it’s available for both the next gen consoles, the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Guitar Hero 3 is very similar to the previous Guitar Hero 2, it’s an extremely good game, however it’s restricted by having only the guitar career. However, this game comes with the best set list so it really is a must have for any guitar hero fan.
The next one is Guitar Hero Aerosmith but I will also include Guitar Hero Metallica because they are both band-based games. Based on what I just said, these games are not brilliant for beginners because you don’t get the range of songs that you would in the normal games. Unless you are a Guitar Hero fan or a fan of the particular band, I wouldn’t recommend them.
Guitar Hero World Tour, now, this one was very popular because it was the first game to come with the full range of instruments, drums, guitar, mic and bass. However, I don’t think that it comes with a good set list. It’s crammed full of old cheesy songs that are terrible for solo play.
Now for the most recent game that was just released last week, Guitar Hero Greatest Hits. I do think that this game has to be the best for a beginner player of the entire family. I think this because the set list contains the best songs from Guitar Hero 1, 2, 3, 80’s and Aerosmith. This means that you get the greatest songs to play, plus you get to play them with the full range of instruments.
Now onto the likes of Rock Band, Guitar Hero’s competitor. The first game they released, Rock Band 1, was very good, it had a great set list as well as the introduction of the drums which are very well built. The guitars that came with the game were pretty rubbish, but the game itself was very good. However, with Rock Band 2 being released, this is a more ideal game because it comes with an even better set list, as well as a range of improved game features. Also, once you have Rock Band 2, you can then buy Rock Band 1 and add the songs onto Rock Band 2.
The only downside to Rock Band 2 is that you currently can’t buy the Rock Band 2 instruments in Europe that come with improved drums. Note: This kit is being released in the upcoming, The Beatles: Rock Band game.
That’s not all, though, Rock Band also has a huge online library of songs that you can download for a small amount. They have hundreds and hundreds of songs that you can download to expand your song list, plus they are all compatible with all the Rock Band games meaning you can play them on any of the games.
However, is Rock Band an ideal game for beginners? I would say no, however, it has to be the best game for any experienced player because it has a hugely expandable set list with new songs being released for download almost every week.
Aslong as you get all the instruments for the game, I would say that Guitar Hero Greatest Hits is the best music based game for beginners.
